Skyrim and mounted combat are now a couple

Mounted combat has now been added to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. An update via Bethesda’s blog revealed that the mounted combat feature is now available for players on the PC who download the game’s 1.6 update through Steam. Information regarding this feature for consoles will be announced at a later date.

What does it allow players to do? Mounted Combat allows players to inflict melee damage and ranged weapon damage while riding a horse. Finally, the horse is useful for something other than being an organic taxi. Apart from mounted combat the 1.6 update also includes a variety of bug fixes across all platforms, including memory optimizations, corruption fixes, general stability issues, and kill cam issues.

ok that officially puts me at crossroads. This will likely not be a console feature so now i have to decide when I finally bite on Skyrim do i wait for a steam sale or get the pS3 version?

Nope, it is a first party patch that adds that adds these features and it is definitely coming to consoles. Currently there isn’t a release date on the patch for consoles as it’s still in the Beta phase on PC, but it has been confirmed it will be available on consoles. Really, the only differences between the console and PC versions of the game at this point is the availability of mods. Obviously they are not available on the console version of the game, so if that’s something that you’re interested in you may want to go with the PC version.

oh then.. cool. Well as much as I like the idea of mods. If the patch is coming for consoles then yeah I guess I’ll wait for the price drop and pick it up for PS3.. maybe by then it’ll be functional.

Yeah, Bethesda is plagued by buggy games, but I didn’t have much of a problem with Skyrim. A few minor things like losing a companion, but nothing a reload wouldn’t fix. With a game like this though, you may end up waiting a while for a price drop. Elder Scrolls games tend to hold onto their value for while, in my experience.

And, if you didn’t see it, you can get the details regarding their upcoming DLC package here: http://www.nizulo.com/2012/06/the-road-to-e3-2012-skyrim-dawnguard-dlc/. :D

you don’t know how large my backlog is. I still haven’t finished Fallout 3 ($30 back in the day) or Oblivion GOTY ($20) or DragonAge Origins Special Edition ($20). I got plenty to keep me occupied while I wait that one out.

I’m a Nintendo fan.. i’m used to waiting out 1st Party Nintendo games.. those are like playing Russian Roulette. Some of them never drop (Double Dash looking at you homie)

This is true. With Skyrim, I didn’t have much problems. I did, however, have a bad run in with one glitch that forced me to restart. With that said, I loved every minute of Skyrim. This, coupled with the Dawnguard DLC you covered will push even more hours out of me.
