New updates with Beyond: Two Souls

Comic-Con has concluded (let’s have a moment of silence please), yet a wealth of new updates have surfaced from one of Sony’s most anticipated games of 2013 - Beyond: Two Souls. The gaming universe was shaken by the groundbreaking debut at E3 2012 when this new IP showed off incredible, lifelike characters delivering powerful performances within a five minute trailer. What a tease, I know. To ease the anxiety felt from the game’s arrival, developer David Cage joined actors Ellen Paige and Kadeem Hardison, two of the main characters in Beyond, to talk about the game and technology that created the game’s authentic look. The following was information gathered (deciphered) from the panel discussion:
Main Characters
Jodie Holmes (Ellen Paige)
A girl that players will follow for fifteen years (in game) as she struggles to discover the complexities of her life and the mysterious entity that accompanies her throughout the story. Players will have the ability to control either the entity or Jodie as they journey through the world to discover, as David Cage put it so eloquently, “what is beyond.”
Cole Freeman (Kadeem Hardison)
Cole is a “government agent researching paranormal activities,” who looks to be an important character in the story. It appears Cole aims to assist Jodie in discovering what and who this entity is as the story begins to slowly unfold. A “slip of the tongue” moment occurred as Kadeem talked briefly about his character, claiming that he serves to “raise” Jodie. Raise her as his own child? From the dead? The mystery continues to be kept under lock and key… for now.
Similar to Heavy Rain, in Beyond: Two Souls, player’s decisions affect how the story is told, creating unique scenarios per play-through. This means when a character dies, it is not game over. It is only the beginning of a new path to be traveled. David Cage wants players to become engrossed in this game by creating emotional ties to various characters. This is not just a game, folks. Choose wisely.
No official release date has been announced as of yet. I will continue to keep you posted on new updates. In the mean time, check out the E3 teaser trailer below.
