Sleeping Dogs takes melee combat to the next level with GSP

Brought to life by United Front Games in collaboration with Square Enix London Studios, Sleeping Dogs is an all new, gritty cop drama. Set in the beautiful city of Hong Kong, this open world game pits you against some of Hong Kong’s most fearsome fighters, but you need not worry. Powering your characters combat system is the fighting knowledge of professional mixed martial artist, George St. Pierre. A wise move by United Front Games, if you ask me. Although stringing combos are said to be done with ease the key, as GSP points out, is patience. “Wait for your opponent to make a mistake; wait for that strike to miss and take your shot. Losing is not an option…”

Sleeping Dogs has you play the role of undercover cop Wei Shen, who’s mission it is to take down one of the world’s most feared criminal organizations. “Offering players an island packed with action, every street corner, market stall, harbour dock or city skyscraper can become an opportunity for intense shoot-outs, adrenaline-fuelled street races and intense, brutal martial arts combat. ” Also featured in the game are cinematic combo finishers allowing players to make use of countless real-world items such as crates, circular saws, and refrigerator doors.

It’s good to see a development studio putting in that extra kick to give a core mechanic an edge. True Crime, the series that this game was originally a part, is known for it’s brutal, realistic gameplay and it looks as if Sleeping Dogs is taking that one step further.
