DICE unveils new Battlefield 3 Premium Edition package

In a press release today DICE revealed plans to release a new package deal bundling Battlefield 3 with the already released Premium content. Basically, by purchasing Battlefield 3 Premium Edition, players will get the regular BF3 game and BF3 Premium bundled together. So, instead of buying them seperately, you’ll get the full experience in one shot, combining the game, the DLC that has released so far, and all future planned DLC.

The bundle, priced at $69.99 USD, is supposed to offer players who haven’t yet joined the Battlefield brotherhood an easy way in. Obviously, if you’ve already purchased a copy of BF3, all you’ll need to do is get Premium and you won’t be missing out on anything. The bundle doesn’t offer anything new or anything additional to what veteran players already have, just discounts it.

One additional item that comes with Premium Edition is a ‘Multiplayer Head-Start Kit. Basically, it will automatically unlock 15 different weapons, gadgets, and vehicle upgrades from the start, letting new players jump straight into the game.

Do you think it’s a good idea for EA and DICE to release a bundled package like this? It seems a little unfair to the players who bought Premium when it first released as this is a little bit of a discount, especially since it’s still relatively new. Do you feel the same? If you haven’t played BF3 yet, does this give you a little more push to pick up the shooter?

Battlefield 3 Premium Edition will be releasing in the US on September 11th and the rest of the world a few days later on September 13th. In the mean time, why don’t you check out the announcement trailer from GamesCom just below?

Am I the only one who feels that this is a kick in the balls / ovaries of gamers, who bought the game and Premium first day? Especially Australian gamers can’t be too happy after paying almost double for Premium than the rest of the world.

You know, I felt the same way as I was writing it. It only launched a couple of months ago and now it is being discounted for people who didn’t purchase it right off. I think that the loyal fans who got it right away should have some type of perk over those who waited. Just like Call of Duty Elite players got an emblem for Elite Founder status. It’s small and rather useless, but it still shows that the devs appreciate those that are loyal. Here it’s just an easy way to get people playing the game that didn’t buy it before and the diehard’s are left by the wayside. Am I right?

      • Phantoms_Heart

You are absolutely right! In addition to the founder status early adopters should get an exclusive gun as well, just like the DICE devs, who have their unique M1911 S-Tac.

Oath! This made me, to put it real nicely, ticked off. I just forked out $66 for premium and now their releasing the game AND PREMIUM for $69! Feeling a bit ripped off…

This is rediculous. I bought battlfield three on day one. When i saw the premium thing happen i was like wow doing the same as elite on cod. But the other day i went to my local gamestop and they released a bundle copy pf this gamw wich is the original game plus premium service for thirty bucks. I payed sixty for the game and fifty for premium. Im pissed. I traded the game in and i will not support dice in any more games. I feel like i was stabbed in the back after suplorting them this long.

    • RichTheRookie

Wow, for $30. I can definitely understand your frustration. You’d be feeling jipped and I don’t blame. However, considering the game has been out now for over a year, with Premium not far off either, can you blame them for selling it so cheap? It’s not like people would pay full price ($60 for the game, $50 for Premium) when the game has been out for over 12 months, right?
