OnLive stays afloat by selling assets

image

It seems that rumors of OnLive’s demise may have been exaggerated a tad bit. An OnLive spokesperson told VentureBeat that the gaming company’s assets will indeed be sold to another company and that users won’t experience any interruptions. The spokesperson also mentioned that the new company has plans to hire a large percentage of it’s former employees.

this remains one of the worst ideas I’ve seen in contemporary gaming. Streaming the entire game? that’s worse than PSN+’s “free games” that are really just “unlimited rentals” because (and this can’t be emphasized enough) when your subscription ends.. so does your ability to play the game.

But with regards to this it depends FAR too much on having bandwidth. It’s bad enough to lose access to your videos but if your internet connection is anything less than perfect what happens to your gaming experience? Either it a) degrades thus defeating the purpose or b) it stops again defeating the purpose. I’ve never been a fan of OnLive and while I’m not dancing on their grave with joy at their misfortune or anything. I’m not at all surprised or much bothered by their trials and tribulations.

I agree with your bandwidth point. Actually, i agree with most of what you’ve said. Here in Australia, even in the suburbs, its hard enough getting a decent connection especially one that would allow me to stream an entire game. I’d much rather own my game than to pay a subscription to play one. Each to their own though.

That other company isn’t by any chance Sony and their newly acquired cloud service GAIKAI?
