The Ramblings of a Mad Man: Gaming + Home-Life

This is a new series that delves into the mind of Aaron Davies AKA BulldogAaron. Showcased here are short, sharp rants that are brutally honest and not for the feint-hearted or the easily offended. They are completely unedited. We remind you that although BulldogAaron is a part of Australian360Platoon which are affiliates of Nizulo, his views are completely and entirely his own. Enjoy.

Gaming + Home-life

There are many Gamers out there with this problem.
Well it’s more like, they can never get the equation to balance right!
I know I am one of them! And there are probably just the same amount out there who don’t have this problem…

This is one equation that requires a lot, and I do mean A LOT, of “fine tuning” to get the problem to balance.

It’s really difficult to explain to ppl who don’t “Game” like we do, that while Gaming isn’t what our universe revolves around (lets be honest here, it kinda does). I’ve tried many time to explain to my “Non-Gamer” friends, why I enjoy Gaming sooo much and I always get the same response of “I don’t really get it”. Which is fine, I’m not going to attempt to convert them into gamers as its not a task that can be undertaken lightly.

I have recently come under-fire from my amazing wife, over the amount of time that I have been spending with my Mistress (My Xbox 360).
At first I couldn’t see the issue she was having as it’s only Xbox, but after she put it to me plainly, I understood where she is coming from!

100% Gaming + 0% Home-life = Unhappy friends, family and loved ones!

The key here is finding the right amount of Gaming and Home-life and then sticking to it. I know it sounds difficult to reduce gaming! And it’s not an easy task to undertake, believe me I know!

For me the way I looked at it was like this,
50% Gaming + 50% Home-life = Happy wife!

This balance may not work for every one but the point I’m trying to get across is, while “Gaming” is your preferred pastime, it shouldn’t dictate your whole life!

Hey man, “Happy wife, happy life” is a motto I have tired to stick to. I know where you’re coming from with this. I’ve even had a therapist tell me that I have an addiction to gaming, no joke intended. It’s hard for me to find a balance between my favorite activity and the rest of my life.

I’ll be the first to admit that occasionally I’ll slip up and not give my family enough attention. It’s easy get to caught up in what you’re doing, especially if you have a one-track mind like myself. I’ve just tried to stick to a schedule of game time/not game time that way I don’t get too absorbed.

Yeah it’s a tough balancing act and it gets even harder when you get so engrossed in what you are doing that you don’t even realise that there is a problem!

I feel that man. I, like Justin, have a one track mind. It’s something that I’m learning to develop, and over time I feel that I have. There’s nothing worse than having a problem (that is obviously there) spring up on me and catching me off guard because I was too focused on something else.

A friend of mine once told me that success is purely harmonious balance between all areas of ones life.
